Mirror, mirror, off the wall

A new low Barbara. You can disagree, you can argue, you can “report” as to whatever news or cartoon you want. But this?? This is ridiculous. I am a true believer in the freedoms that our country gives us, but I am also a believer in people’s feelings. I take offense, and I as a family member am hurt by this. The meaning for a dunce cap is this:
“a conical cap formerly used as a punishment for slow learners at school —called also dunce’s cap”
Your purpose for the cartoon is probably one thing, but having a brother with Down syndrome, and as a teacher, I take it as another. I do not take this lightly. I respectfully ask that you publicly humiliate my mother in another fashion. Thank you.
Rachal Hyatt
Ah, Rachal, Rachal,
Please look at the face in the cartoon. It is your mother’s face. It is not your brother’s face. It is not the face of any of the children you teach. Don’t confuse the faces– and the issues.
There are many things in that dunce cap but not a one of them has anything to do with your brother who you point out has Down Syndrome. Or any of the children you teach.
There are things in that dunce’s cap like not understanding the budget. Or not knowing how to work things through a Council. Or calling your Council “anti-business” at one of the first meetings after your election right after a pretty nasty-mouthed guy had said the same thing. Or not knowing that compromise means a mayor has to give some, too.
Things in that dunce cap also include things like lying, equivocating, and storming around in a fury.
In that dunce cap are also the public– and behind-the-scenes– humiliations your mother has visited on those who oppose her politically. Most of us started out believing she would tolerate, and perhaps at times benefit from, disagreement. We quickly learned humiliation and below-the-belt tactics were in her hat.
Or taken another way, the dunce cap on your mother’s head is all about how she plays politics and has without a modicum of intelligent thought split this town apart, leaving vitriol and hatred in her wake.
There’s one more thing—perhaps the most important thing– to be added to this dunce’s cap.
That’s pulling a “pity this poor Down Syndrome child” whenever you—or your mother—want to deflect criticism, and make it boomerang back on the one who is criticizing rather than face the harsh political realities of the real world.
Your brother is a wonderful, lively, little boy. It’s mighty unfair of you to use him the way you—and your mother—do. Your “pity this poor child” is not working to deflect criticism in this town any more. People are on to you and yours.
Look at the face, Rachal. It is your mother’s.
Your mother deserves her cartoon.
Is it pitiful how they repeatedly use that innocent child to gain peoples’ sympathy?
Was it sad when Mayor Joy publicly humiliated her former loving family member, her ex husband? Was she thinking of his feelings when she dumped him for Reonigk’s man in full view of the citizens of ES?
Does Ms. Hyatt think everyone in town is happy with this pro-business, anti-citizen mayor? Is it ridiculous for her to have such a thin skin when it comes to matters politic?
Does she need to take a good long look at reality from all sides whether it casts her mother in a good light or not so good? Do we doubt she will?
Does she have this site confused with Joyland, the almost-but-not-quite-local festering geeksite where almost everyone seems to love her mother (but few can actually vote in local elections)?
Does she realize her mother set her up to have her feelings hurt? Is it sad that the mother put her loving daughter in such a position?
Thank you, “madgrabb@yahoo.com,” whoever you are, for your absurdly juvenile comments on those you so irrationally hate– without wit, wisdom or wonder.
That is not why your comments have not been approved, however. Your comments have not been approved because the email address you left is not valid.
We don’t approve comments from fly-by non-existents with a bad mouth and no sense.
Have a good day.
Dear Mr. Brown,
You did not get permission to use the image of my balloon or my car on your gossip column. It has been reported to wordpress. Please remove it from your gossip column.
Thank you,
Alvin Byrd
As you well know, Alvin, I am not Mr. Brown nor the name you prefer to call me by in public, “Brown Turd.”
I do not believe a picture of a balloon that was sitting in a public place with a political advertisement on it , in flagrant violation of local law, constitutes violation of copyright. If it does, I will be happy to remove it once you inform me of the law(s) under which I am to take it down.
Thank you.

There ya’ go, big guy. Not a thing from your image or trailer or balloon, even though your last post had nothing about the law in it, just blabbermouthing and threatening. Don’t know what you mean about your car.
You may heckle me and others as you will, here on ES Folk, and as you did in the parking lot when I took a picture of your balloon. I could ban you but I won’t. You are so silly I kind of like you hanging around. It’s good amusement for our readers for the day.
You and the Mayor have split this community apart with your small group pandering to hatefulness, swiftboating, and unwillingness to listen to reason.
P.S. You don’t have to give me permission to take a photo of something meant for the general public, situated in a public place. I can just plain do it. I decided to have a good time and draw my own stuff, though. It’s not worth my time engaging in meaningless, little, battles like this.
Oh MY MY, how the truth hits home, Barbara I applaud your truth and just news, I do not read GeekFest which is a GOSSIP COLUMN, and selectively edited at that, I do not know for sure If Alllvinnn reads and responds there, bet money he does. I do know Mayor Joy and Ms. Hyatt(?) do though, on a regular basis, it is where they feel at home. Sticks and Stones!!!! Love your news site.
