Trella Laughlin read the following statement to the July 23, 2008 meeting of the Eureka Springs CAPC. She requested that:
- The Mayor and the City Council appoint a committee– “Friends of The Aud”– comprised of two citizens (one lesbian, one gay man) from the gay community; two city council members (or citizens they designate as substitute representatives; two people from the business community; two people from the art community; and one member of the Auditorium staff to function as a:
A. 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (one was functioning in the past and holds 501(c)(3) designation which can be reinstituted);
B. committee to raise money for the Aud by:
(1) writing grants;
(2) holding benefits
(3) auctioning artists’ (donated) memorabilia via eBay;
(4) organizing volunteers to function as ushers, clean-up people, and other jobs necessary for non-profit productions;
- The CAPC will
A. assist non-profit organizations with their events, including advertisements, staffing and media orientation;
B. agree to fund advertising for all non-profit organizations’e events held free at the Aud.
- The City Council will introduce a resolution to:
A. remove the Aud from the management by the CAPC with the appropriate funds for operating the Aud, to be deducted from the CAPC budget until Friends of the Aud are able to write grants, etc., for independent funding within one year.
B. Until such organizing can be done, the CAPC agrees to offer free access to the Aud for any 501(c)(3) organization or other organization providing events free for the Eureka Springs communities.
Additionally, the CAPC will not charge any of these organizations for use of The Aud but will provide any and all assistance to any 501(c)(3) or not-profit organization using The Aud.
