Phil Jackson Distinguishes Himself at Council Meeting of July 28, 2008
The head of Carroll County Solid Waste Phil Jackson was a distinguishing presence at the Eureka Springs Council meeting of July 28, 2008. His presentation was cogent, coherent, and convincing, unlike so much of what we have heard from City Hall in the last year and a half. We wished there were more like him.

Ald. Scheunemann Gets Top Billing in Article Addressing Charges against Him
In a July 24, 2008 article in the Morning News, Eureka Springs Ald. Eric Scheunemann gets top billing for his position on not voting on a Council that he says is illegally constituted. The City’s Mayor, Dani Joy, vetoed the election of Pat Matsukis by Council to replace a Council member who had resigned.

CAPC Responds to AG Opinion
The Eureka Springs CAPC today unanimously passed a resolution saying they would continue to tax B&Bs as they are now being taxed, according to a suggested statement written by Executive Director Jim Williams. The statement said that the CAPC:
is resolved to continue to collect an advertising and promotion tax [as the CAPC currently does, collecting [...]

The Mayor’s Game
Eureka Springs Mayor Dani Joy wanted to give a bolster-up speech at the Council meeting of July 28th.
Turned out to be more like we were listening to a down-and-out cheerleader at a losing game, no time left, with almost the whole field to go.
