We were ambling along Spring Street the Saturday afternoon of Blues Festival, 2008, in Eureka Springs when we saw Bill Earngey and Pierce Lockwood holding up little black boxes with an eye on the front, and we said, “What ho! If veteran city watcher Earngey is involved, it’s got to be something interesting.”

What’s wrong with this picture?

An article in the New York Times for Saturday, May 31, 2008, headlined “The 31 Places to go this Summer.” Of the 31 places, only one is in the south– in Texas, hey ho hay ho!

The Hate-and-Swiftboat Effect

No one wants to believe the hate-and-swiftboat effect works, particularly here in Eureka Springs. The problem is, it works or I wouldn’t be writing any of this.

Tony Perkins, the homophobic president of the homophobic Family Research Council, has just appeared on Stephen Colbert’s show, to talk anti-gay stuff. Colbert provided an excellent Point-Counterpoint all by himself, no one else needed.

The Law Nobody Knew

At the last Council meeting, Finance Director Yvonne Kline said the law required a public hearing if tiers (levels of use) were to be changed in establishing sewer rates.

Victory!

The Non-Partisan Poll Watchers Group for Fair Elections today said their complaints to the state elections commission against certain polling place practices in Eureka Springs, AR, and surrounding precincts, resulted in “a victory for fair elections.”
