“I will not be intimidated!”

Public Eye sees the Council’s support of David (Fuzzy) White’s taxi/limo franchise as highly commendable. It was Ald. Rae Hahn who first said, “I will not be intimidated,” brave soul. But a majority of Council has agreed with her, declining Attorney Wade Williams’ invitation to intimidation with his threat to sue the City on behalf [...]

A-SPAN Attention Span Test of Council

You’ve heard of C-SPAN. Now there’s A-SPAN, a hidden camera that measures the attention span of people under various conditions. ES Folk hired an expert to run the newly developed A-SPAN over our elected officials to determine their attention span during the last Council meeting. For a more accurate reading, the test considers several factors.

Look Ma! It’s a Hippo. No, Dear, It’s the CAPC

CAPC Chair Bryan (“It’s not illegal until you get caught”) Sumpter served the last of his term at the CAPC meeting on June 27, 2007. Under Sumpter, the CAPC gathered its abominably poor record, so poor in fact that it was close to being voted out of existence altogether.

Views from the Registry Celebration

City Clerk Rejects Petitions to Bring DP to a Referendum Vote for the 2nd Time

City Clerk Mary Jean has rejected Rev. Philip Wilson’s second attempt to bring the DP Registry to referendum. According to Sell, “they referred the ordinance to a vote of the people but they didn’t say why [they were asking for the vote].”

Com3: Organizing to Defeat the Referendum on the DP Registry

Com3 is organizing efforts to defeat the referendum on the Domestic Partnership Registry. Com3 is a project undertaken by Marie Howard, Trella Laughlin and Barbara Lightner.
A later note: we successfully registered folks at the Registry celebration. Thanks to J.D. and Cathy Harris for hosting the get-together. Click here for pix of the celebration

Link ‘Em or Lose ‘Em

Under proposed Ordinance 2051, both taxi and limo services would be considered one and the same franchise. The Council, as the approver of franchises, would thereby approve a taxi and limo service linked in one service, or deny them, according to need. The ordinance is on its second reading but the going has not been [...]
