Roenigk Games
Marty Roenigk, local developer, hotelier, and owner of CompuDyne providing services to the public security market, will provide financial backing for a new video game development firm, “Brainstem Games,” according to the Carroll County News. Chris Breckenridge, president of Eureka Computer Systems, and Pat Wilkinson of New York, will join Roenigk in the firm.
If all works as planned, the group’s gaming strategy should help Eureka (pop. 2200) grow economically. The town has been stalled in matters of economic development, with tourism its major industry, and low wages and few creative or management jobs, its legacy.
Plans also include development of a software publication company. This means business, both in terms of trying to grab as much market share as the entrepreuners can get their hands on, according to Breckenridge; and presumably in bringing decent jobs to town.
The trio are also working with the CAPC to see if they might be able to bring a gaming convention in. Breckenridge sees great opportunity for small and medium-sized software developers, as well as the general public.
The group hopes to start small and then expand to a hundred or more jobs. The firm will hire locally if at all possible. Roenigk has advertised for experienced programmers in the local Lovely County Citizen. Sources close to ES Folk have said that Roenigk has also taken his ad for personnel to one of the local bulletin boards.
